About the Nina & Beni chair

Nina & Beni is a chair in steam-bent solid wood, designed and made by Andrés Mariño Maza at MARINOMAZA, his design, prototyping and manufacturing lab in Ajalvir, Madrid. It is made from 100% sustainably sourced American hardwoods, in ash, cherry, oak or walnut, and finished with natural oils and waxes.

Like the other pieces, it is inspired by wooden boatbuilding, whose efficient forms follow the grain of the wood. Steam-bending keeps off-cut waste to a minimum and makes the most of the beauty and strength of solid wood. The working drawings below show the bent profiles, the bending form for the legs and the seat plan.

In 2020 the chair won the Gold A’ Design Award in the Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design category (2019–2020), and in April 2021 it appeared on the cover of the Madrid edition of La Razón. About fifteen are made each year in an annual numbered edition. It measures W 560 × H 720 × D 500 mm and weighs 8 kg.
