About the Marino Rocker
The Marino Rocker is a modern rocking chair designed and made by Andrés Mariño Maza at MARINOMAZA, his design, prototyping and manufacturing lab in Ajalvir, Madrid. The frame is steam-bent solid wood, in walnut or cherry, with custom upholstery. The whole chair weighs 8 kg.
The design comes from wooden boatbuilding. Boatbuilders bend wood along its grain to reach strong, light, streamlined shapes with little waste. The Marino Rocker follows the same logic: strips of solid wood are steamed, bent over forms and laminated into the long curves of the frame. The working drawings below show the bending form and the laminations.
It is made in an annual numbered edition of around ten a year, and each piece carries the MARINOMAZA stamp with its number and year. It measures L 110 × W 55 × H 100 cm and is finished with natural oils and waxes, in wood from sustainable, responsibly managed forests. Earlier shown as Flect.
